Looking Glass, 2026

Acrylic, cyanotype on linen

After a long hot day out in Bangalore, India, we began to make our way back to rest and shower before dinner. Exhausted, I gazed out of the window to notice this packed bus alongside us. I remember scanning everyone in their seats, thinking I wonder what they are thinking about, I wonder if they are tired or irritable too, I wonder if they had a good day? I stopped when I hit this woman. She didn’t care to look at me, she barely seemed to care to blink. I watched her stare aimlessly into the distances, head almost braced perfectly against the window pane. She looked so still, she seemed so peaceful. The moment was fleeting but as she drove away, I snapped her photo. Her literal reflection against the window became a metaphor for me.
